60 years of press freedom

On July 4, 1950, Radio Free Europe hit the airwaves from the Empire State Building to the communist Czechoslovakia. Today, RFE broadcasts to over 20 million people and has focused its efforts on bringing press freedom to the Middle East, Central Asia, Russia and Eastern Europe.

This weekend, enjoy the bbqs, fireworks and time off work. But most importantly, enjoy our rights to do all of this while those in other countries are faced with jail time, violence and death for speaking out. Through journalism and the efforts of human rights groups, we can continue to give voice to the silent.
